As part of 3daysofdesign from June 10 to 12, 2026, freistil ROLF BENZ presents freistil174, a tribute to a sofa that already made history in the 1970s. The motto of this year’s design fair in Copenhagen is “Make this Moment Matter.” What sofa could be a better source of inspiration than a design that seems to move effortlessly through time? Even back then, the design of the original ROLF BENZ created a new sense of living – clear in form, bold in statement, uncompromising in comfort. Now, the classic returns as a true statement piece: reduced, self-assured, and relevant for today. Reimagined for a generation seeking consistency instead of short-lived trends.

freistil174 – Retro meets State-of-the-Art

With its striking cassette-style upholstery and low-profile silhouette, freistil174 is a true character piece within the freistil ROLF BENZ product portfolio. In this new design from Nagold, a clear design approach combines with uncomplicated living comfort. Precisely crafted chambers and subtly emphasized contours underline the high-quality craftsmanship. Generous proportions and soft upholstery invite relaxation and unwinding. The distinctive backrest construction ensures high seating comfort even without additional cushions - optional loose back cushions are, of course, available. Two different seat depths ensure that relaxation itself remains entirely self-determined. The distinctive side view gives this Black Forest-made reinterpretation its high recognition value, while primarily presenting itself as a contemporary evolution of an expressive design with its own clear attitude.
