Black Forest Lifestyle: Designer furniture collection from ROLF BENZ and freistil in Hotel Fritz Lauterbad
Hotel Fritz Lauterbad emerged from a historical luxury hotel located in the middle of the forest that dates back to 1896. Managed for many years by the Heinzelmann and Schillinger families, it has now been completely repositioned with a feel for Black Forest authenticity and global design lifestyle.
Steffen Schillinger wanted to create a place where high quality design, wellness and pure nature are accessible to as many people from the city as possible. After visiting design hotels worldwide, he created an emotional, cool Black Forest atmosphere in his hometown in 2019.
The urban Black Forest spirit of the Hotel Fritz Lauterbad is shared 100% by ROLF BENZ and freistil. Bastian Wieland, director of archis Architekten + Ingenieure GmbH from Karlsruhe, is also a kindred spirit. The architects have added a sympathetic extension to the historic hotel so the historic luxury hotel and its wonderful old walls still looks like a solitary building. The façade of the cuboid that has been added, made of charred timber cladding and glass, becomes blurred when viewed from afar.
The hotel comprises a total of 68 hotel rooms of various sizes. All have a view facing the forest or a vista of the Swabian Alb. There’s also a lobby, a restaurant, a bistro bar, multi-purpose rooms and a wellness area. Steffen Schillinger describes the interiors of his hotel, for which he himself is responsible, as cosy and warm with a pinch of industrial style.
He was inspired by ROLF BENZ’s exhibition stand at the Salone del Mobile in Milan for the colour concept. Walls and furniture are in earthy, natural tones from green to copper and sludge whilst the ceilings are a blackish brown. With furniture from ROLF BENZ and freistil, the very special Black Forest combination of luxury and nonchalance which Steffen Schillinger had in mind is elegantly staged.
The rooms and suites accommodate swivelling versions of the Rolf Benz 684 armchair, the freistil 173 armchair, the freistil 175 lounge sofa and the Rolf Benz 9480 and Rolf Benz 973 coffee tables. At the desk is the Rolf Benz 650 chair, which can also be found in different versions in the bistro bar, in the restaurant, the hall and – as a stackable version – in the conference room.
