Rothaus restaurant in Gerber shopping centre brings the Black Forest to the heart of the city with furniture
For the brewery from Grafenhausen-Rothaus in the Black Forest, the restaurant has been a very special project. It represents the company’s first foray into gastronomy outside its home town. The design explicitly avoids the traditional brew-pub concept, instead presenting a modern celebration of the Black Forest.
Rothaus also found the perfect partner in the local design company ROLF BENZ. Both businesses combine a pride for their Black Forest heritage with a cosmopolitan outlook. The centrally situated restaurant delivers high-quality traditional cuisine with premium furniture and design from the Black Forest.
With an area of around 650 square metres, the dining area features interior design from the Stuttgart-based architecture firm Blocher Partners. For the Rothaus restaurant, the renowned studio reinterpreted several style elements typical of the Black Forest and its brewery culture.
The spacious area is divided into three zones. The large bar area with its copper-coloured bartop, dark wooden panels and black slate shingles hanging from the ceiling, a whisky corner featuring a dark green tiled stove, and a lounge area with light pinewood boards, light slate shingles on the walls and copper piping underneath an open ceiling.
The whisky area features the Rolf Benz 383 and freistil 173 cushioned armchairs, along with the Rolf Benz 641 armchair. Guests can also relax in the lounge area on the Rolf Benz 562 club chair. The predominantly green, anthracite and copper-coloured woollen upholstery is provided by the Danish firm Kvadrat.
The restaurant also has several ROLF BENZ and freistil coffee tables that can be arranged into groups at will. These include the Rolf Benz 8480 with its stylised tree trunk table top, the Rolf Benz 947 with natural stone table top, and the portable freistil 158. These elements combine to create precisely the Black Forest feeling that the Rothaus brewery envisaged for its restaurant.
Both partners are ready to follow up this successful joint project with others. Even before the collaboration, ROLF BENZ served the Tannenzäpfle beer while exhibiting at trade fairs.
